What We Believe

What we believe at Grace and Truth about Jesus Christ, the Bible, and the Church

What We Believe

The Bible: Authority and Revelation

We believe that God is revealed through Jesus Christ, in the Holy Scriptures (the Bible) and in His creation. The Bible, which consists of all sixty-six Old and New Testament books, are divinely authoritative in all they affirm. (Ps. 19:1-6Heb. 1:1-2John 17:17)

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture. This means the Holy Spirit dynamically superintended the verbal expressions of the human authors of Scripture so that the very thoughts God intended were accurately penned in the wording of the original manuscripts. (2 Tim. 3:16-172 Pet. 1:20-211 Cor. 2:13)

We believe the Scriptures are trustworthy, without error as to fact and infallible as to truth, and should be interpreted in context to properly understand the intent and meaning. The Bible, in it's diligently translated versions, continues to bear the final authoritative instruction of God for the church and the world. (John 10:35bPs. 19:7Matt. 5:17-18Jude 3)

The Divine Trinity

We believe in God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; holy, infinite and personal who created and governs all things and is to be the sole object of our worship. This one God has eternally existed in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each identical in nature, equal in power and glory, and having precisely the same divine attributes. (Deut. 6:4Matt. 28:192 Cor. 13:14John 4:24)

God the Father

We believe that God the Father is the holy and loving Creator of all things. Unlimited in time, space, knowledge, and power, the Father has planned all that comes to pass. Although distinct from His creation, He is actively and intimately at work in it. (Ps. 139: 1-161 Cor. 8:6John 5:17)

God the Son

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He became man, without ceasing to be God, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary in order to redeem sinful humanity. He satisfied God’s holy and just demands by dying as our substitute on the cross. He assured our redemption by His resurrection from the dead in the same, though glorified, body in which He was crucified, died and was buried. (John 1:1-2Luke 1:35Rom. 3:24-251 Pet. 1:3-5). Being accepted as an offering acceptable to the Father for the sins of man, Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead, ascended to heaven and is exalted at the right hand of the Father. As a High Priest for His people, He lives forever as our Intercessor and Advocate. (Heb. 9:247:25Rom. 8:341 John 2:1-2)

God the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is the One who effectively imparts Christ’s life to all who believe on Jesus Christ through faith. He baptizes them into the body of Christ, dwells within all believers, seals them for the day of redemption, fills them, gifts for service and empowers them for a life of holiness which enables the believer to love and serve God and His church. He has also been sent by the Father to convict the world of sin, righteousness and the coming judgement. (Rom. 8:91 Cor. 12:1-14Eph. 1:13-14Gal. 5:22-25John 16:8-11)

The Creation and Fall of Humanity

We believe that all human beings are created in the image of God. Through Adam's disobedience, all mankind is born into sin. All men, sinners by birth and by choice, are alienated from God and have come under the judicial sentence of death and eternal separation from God. (Gen. 1:25-27Rom. 3:22-235:12-21Eph. 2:1-312)

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the free gift of God offered to all humanity by grace and received through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. All true believers, having been justified by faith are sealed, kept by His power and forever saved. It is therefore the privilege and duty of every believer to be filled with the Holy Spirit, enjoying His presence, power and provision in a life well pleasing to God, exercising their spiritual gifts and manifesting their new life in Christ through good works in the church and to the world. (Rom. 8:13839John 10:27-30Phil. 1:6Eph. 2:8-105:17-19Titus 2:11-14)

The Church

We believe the true Church, having begun at Pentecost, is the body of Christ, a spiritual community of all who have been born again through faith in Jesus Christ. Local gatherings of believers, the local church, represent Christ’s presence on earth as they proclaim the good news of salvation by faith and newness of life, observe the Lord's Supper (communion) and Believer's Baptism (immersion); and while loving one another, they are also to be the expression of Christ’s love to a lost and dying world. (Eph. 1:22-235:25-271 Cor. 12:12-14Mark 12:28-34John 15:12)

Human Destiny

We believe in the physical resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous: the righteous to eternal life with God, the unrighteous to eternal punishment, and conscious separation from God. (Mark 9:43-48Rev. 20:1522:3-511)

We hold to a pre-tribulational rapture of the church and a pre-millenial return of our Lord Jesus Christ including His millennial kingdom reign upon the earth, and a glorious new heaven and earth where redeemed humanity will dwell forever with God. (1 Thess. 4:13-18Zech. 14:4-11Rev. 20:6)
